Chatsworth Centre's Battle of the Spices event took place this past Sunday, 2nd July 2017, at the Milky Lane entrance. The atmosphere at the Battle of the Spices event created an exhilarating hype and drew many shoppers to the cook off.

Entrants were required to send us a special family recipe which they felt was unique. All recipes received were then posted to the Chatsworth centre Facebook page. Thereafter, all entrants needed to LIKE our Facebook page (if they had not already done so) and encourage their friends to vote for their favourite recipe. The six contestant's recipes with the most likes were chosen to battle it out at the cook off.

The contestants who participated this past Sunday were: Amy Naidoo, Marcellina Singh, Pravin Beechay, Raeesa Ali and Vanitha Maharaj. Due to unforeseen circumstances, one contestant could not participate on the day and had to be withdrawn from the competition.

Shoppers who observed the event were treated to a whole host of entertainment whilst our contestants were preparing their dishes. Prizes were distributed to shoppers for participating which was generously sponsored by our tenants Woolworths, Verimark and Milky Lane. Shoppers also got a taste of the experience as they were able to sample all dishes prepared by our contestants.

Famous culinary chef and cookbook author, Asha Maharaj, judged all the dishes prepared at the cook off together with Vandhana Ramsoonder, Malani Padayachy, Sasha Jordan and Ash Singh. The judges had scored all contestants on various criteria and after much deliberation they were able to come to a consensus on who the winner would be.

The winner of the first grand prize was Marcellina Singh who walked away with an AMC Pot and Verimark hamper. In second place was Raeesa Ali and in third place was Amy Naidoo, who both received an AMC pot. However, no one walked away empty handed, all contestants received a Chatsworth Centre branded gift set, a Spice World cook book, and Asha Maharaj's cook book for taking part in this event. All prizes mentioned above were sponsored by our generous tenants: AMC, Verimark and Spice World.

All Facebook fans had the opportunity to vote for their favourite dish and the one lucky voter will have the opportunity to WIN a R1 000 gift card if the recipe they chose won! The winner of this gift card will be announced on the 7th July 2017 on Facebook.

Publicity Valentine's Day

Chatsworth Centre had something special planned for our loving couples this Valentine's. This Valentine's, Chatsworth Centre hosted a chilli eating contest.

Shoppers were required to pre-register by calling Chatsworth Centre to nominate their partner for the chilli eating challenge. Contestants were also allowed to enter on the day of the event. The event was held on Saturday, 11th February 2017 at the Hub foyer.

All 21 contestants won spot prizes for successfully participating in the contest. All successful contestants were entered into a draw to win a grand prize. Videos of all contestants were posted on Facebook and the video with the most likes was chosen as the winner. As the main prize, we gave away a holiday for two at the Wild Coast Sun, this will include accommodation and breakfast to the value of R 4000 sponsored by Feedy Needy. Lucky winner of the grand prize was Tevindran Pillay.

To commemorate the Valentine's Day we had in mall promoters handing out little trinkets to shoppers on the 14th February 2017. A photo area was also available on Valentine's Day for shoppers to utilise.

Publicity Bursary Awards 2017

Chatsworth Centre hosted their annual Bursary Awards function on Friday, 17th February 2017. This CSI initiative caters for impecunious matriculants in the community, who want to study further at a tertiary institution of their choice. Chatsworth Centre decided to not only allow 2016 matriculants to enter, but to anyone who wanted to study further and has not had the finances to do so. The bursary was open to all 2016 matriculants and to those between the ages of 17 to 25 with a matric qualification. Six students were chosen according to their financial need and academic merit by an independent judging panel.

Chatsworth Centre is proud to have helped change the lives of these six students and wishes them all the success for the year ahead. The proud recipients of the bursaries were Kimeshnee Naidoo, R25 000, Kaylin Govender, R20 000, Thandeka Philile Dludlu, R15 000, Kasmira Gopee, R13 000 and Preshalen Pillay, R10 000. Chatworth Centre had given a special award to Joshua Karunakaram for the amount of R 17 000. Rising Sun had opted to sponsor an additional R13 000 towards his studies.

The awardees were overwhelmed and beyond appreciative upon receiving their bursaries. Chatsworth Centre is proud to have brought joy and assistance in alleviating the financial strain from these students and their families.

Santa was present at the Shoprite forecourt taking pictures with children and families from the 1st till the 24th December 2016.

Over the extended trading hours, we scheduled kids entertainment which was situated at the Hub court and added to the festive ambiance in the mall. Cartoon characters roamed the mall and created hype amongst the shoppers. We had also scheduled reptile shows at the Shoprite foyer. Shoppers enjoyed the experience of viewing the reptiles.

We also ran a spend and win promotion, shoppers who spent R200.00 or more during the 1st till the 24th December stood a chance of being one of five to win their basket back to the value R3 500 . Lucky winners of the grand prizes were Marlene Moodley, Nathan Chetty, Elsie Pillay, Mohan Ramjewan and Akhona Dulwa.

We included a gift with purchase. Shoppers that spent R200 or more between the (16th – 24th December 2016 from 16h00 – 19h00) and entered the spend and win competition were eligible for a complimentary gift. Gifts were available to shoppers only while stocks last.

Santa Clause was stationed at Chatsworth Centre's Shoprite court from the 1st – 24th December 2016. Shoppers and their kids had their photo taken and all children received a FREE lucky dip.

A gift-wrapping service was provided at the HUB court and was conducted by Feedy Needy from the 16th – 24th December 2016. All proceeds raised from this service will go towards the organizations fundraising initiatives.

This year we included letters to Santa with a twist. There was a box situated at the kids display area. Kids and Adults were able to write to Santa and ask him for a special for Christmas. Entrants had to drop their letters in the box between the 1st - 24th December 2016. Each winner was granted a wish to the value of R1 000. Lucky winners were Lameez Ria Imam, Kalsie Naidoo, Bibi Ayesha Amod, Nathan Gounder and Mahasri Naidoo.

Kids had the opportunity of winning a toy hamper by simply taking a picture with Santa from the 1st – 24th December 2016. The competition ran from the 1st January till the 31st January 2017. Pictures from the photos with Santa display were uploaded to the Chatsworth Centre Facebook page. The picture with the most likes will receive a festive toy hamper. Lucky winner of the toy hamper was Lennolyn Deneshan Gangiah.

Chatsworth Centre loves giving back to the community, and with this being said this year we had decorated Cheshire Homes with our old Christmas decor. The kids were thrilled and ecstatic as the Christmas trees and decor was installed.

Diwali

Diwali was celebrated by Hindus far and wide on Sunday 30th October. To help celebrate this occasion, Chatsworth Centre hosted a Spend & Win competition. All shoppers had to do was spend R200.00 or more at any store in the Centre between 14th October 2016 till the 30th October 2016, produce their till slips at the information desk, fill out an entry form and enter into a draw to win a trip to Mauritius for Maha Shivaratri valued at R19 500 co-sponsored by One Stop Travel and Tours. The trip for Maha Shivaratri includes 7 nights' accommodation with breakfast and Dinner daily. Hotels, airport transfers (Direct flights), Shivaratri day and night, North and South Tour, Ille Aux Cerf Tour on a Speed boat with lunch. Lucky winner of the grand prize was Savatri Pillay from Arena Park Chatsworth.

In addition to commemorating this auspicious festival, Chatsworth Centre treated 50 members from the ABH homes to breakfast and light entertainment at Spur in the Centre on the 31st October 2016. The men and women enjoyed a morning filled with fun and laughter. Chatsworth Centre had also given the 50 members each a R150 Gift card to spend in the Centre. Milky lane and Spur had also sponsored vouchers for the 50 members. Lastly, 50 hampers were dispensed to the ABH members sponsored by Feedy Needy. CHATSWORTH'S GOT TALENT 2016 – GRAND FINALE!

The grand finale of the competition was held this Saturday, 8st October 2016. Chatsworth Centre and the community has certainly witnessed the most spectacular and diverse talent by all 20 contestants. The level of talent that has been displayed has certainly exceeded expectations and we would like to congratulate all contestants who showcased their talent during the four week campaign.

The winner in the dance category is Christopher Amando Moonsamy (Meadowvercity) and has won R 12 000 in cash. The winner in the music/vocal category is Lequicia Astrid Nagoor and has won R 12 000 in cash and a record label with AMA Music & Multimedia worth R 7 200 where she will have a chance of recording one track. Both winners in each category will get an artist management contract for the duration of one-year worth R 10 000, courtesy of Big M Productions. Runner up in the dance category is Shenice Bunwarie and has won R 4 500 in cash and runner up in the music/vocal category Risa Moodley, also won R 4 500 in cash.

Chatsworth Centre also offered a cash prize up for grabs to the community's favourite contestant in the competition! All the community needed to do, was vote for their favourite contestant by Liking the contestant pictures on the Chatsworth Centre's face book page. The contestant with the most Likes was Lequicia Astrid Nagoor who won R 2 000 cash.

Careers 2000 celebrated their 25th anniversary and as a bonus to the community, they gave away eight Tablets to the value of R9 600! Each Winner and runner up received a tablet as part of their prize. The remaining four tablets were given away each Saturday at the Chatsworth's Got Talent shows.

This year we added a spend and win element to this event. Shoppers that spent R250 or more between the 10th September 2016 till the 8th October 2016 at any store in the Centre, present their till slips and fill in an entry form at the information desk. All participants stood a chance of winning one of three shopping vouchers worth R1500 each for the first three Saturdays. One voucher was given on each Saturday. All entries then went into a lucky draw for the final grand prize a shopping voucher worth R5500. This week's lucky winner of the grand prize R5 500 gift voucher was Erekha Brijmohan. T's & C's Apply.

The past 4 weeks has been an amazing adventure from start to end, and in typical style, the grand finale concluded with a superb performance by the popular Rajiv Mothie of Big M Productions. Chatsworth Centre would like to thank all service providers for all their hours of hard work and preparation to ensure the event ran smoothly. Satisfy your Need for Speed

Chatsworth Centre hosted a two-week campaign consisting of four different elements for kids of all age groups to enjoy during the holidays.

We had an in mall Need for Speed playstation tournament. The activation area was set up at the Hub court from 07 -17 July 2016 between 11am and 3pm daily. Each day kids had the opportunity to compete against each other for the fastest time with the Need for Speed playstation gaming console. Kids between the age of 6 and 12 were eligible to enter the tournament. Each day one winner was chosen to receive a gift from Chatsworth Centre, Which was a Tablet to the value of R1500 each sponsored by Mancosa. There were eleven winners in total.

Epic Karting was secured as external entertainment and available on the undercover mezzanine level parking from 07 -17 July 2016 between 11am and 6pm daily. Shoppers who spent R300 or more at the centre between 07 – 17 July and produced their till slips at the track and qualified for an extra 10 minutes.

For the younger kids who were not able to take advantage of Epic Karting. Pedal karting was available on the mezzanine level parking next to Epic Karting from 07 – 17 July 2016 between 11am and 6pm daily. Shoppers who spent R200 or more at the centre between 07 – 17 July 2016 and produced their till slips at the track qualified for an extra lap.

We also had a facebook competition for all our social media fans. All they had to do was tell us how they would use their driver's licence to "move forward" and we would finance the cost of their driver's licence. This competition ran from 07 – 17 July 2016 and one lucky winner was chosen to receive a driver's licence package from TNT driving school consisting of learners licence fee, 20 lessons and drivers licence fee. The competition closed on Sunday, 17 July 2016 and the lucky winner was Kaajal Dayalal.

Chatsworth Centre together with Feedy Needy rewarded one lucky shopper with a trip for Umrah valued at R17 000. The trip consisted of five nights stay in Medina, five nights stay in Mecca, all site seeing and internal transport with return flights from Durban. To enter, all shoppers had to do was spend R300 or more at any store in the centre between 20 June and 07 July 2016, produce their till slips at the information desk located on phase 2, and fill in an entry form. All entries went into a lucky draw. The competition closed on Thursday, 7th July 2016 and we would like to say congratulations to Abdool Rahman Sayed who was chosen as our lucky winner.

In commemoration of Eid, Chatsworth Centre served the community with a meal. This took place on Saturday, 9th July 2016 at 12h00 in the parking area outside the Milky lane entrance. A total of 2500 delicious hot meals were provided as part of our way of giving back to the community.

Fathers are often the source of strength and the protectors in our families. They deserve to be acknowledged and appreciated for all they do for us.

Chatsworth Centre hosted a one-week campaign consisting of three different elements to spoil our special dads.

For all our loyal shoppers, we hosted a Spend & Receive. All shoppers had to do was spend R250.00 or more at two or more stores in the Centre between 12 – 19 June 2016, produce their till slips at the information desk located on phase 2 and collect a complimentary gift for their dad.

For all those social media fans, all they had to do was like our Facebook page and post a picture of them spoiling their dad at Chatsworth Centre between 12 – 19 June 2016. Winners were chosen by lucky draw. Congratulations to our two lucky winners, Uvisha Rajpal and Andrea Reddy who were rewarded with a branded men's watch valued at R1000 each to spoil their dads.

All our busy dads were also invited to chill out at our awesome in-mall man cave that was situated in the Shoprite foyer from 18 – 19 June 2016 between 10am and 2pm daily. Our man cave was filled with fun and exciting things to do like catch up with the latest sports, play a game of cards or foosball, sit back, relax and read the latest GQ or Top Gear magazine or treat themselves to a mini neck massage.

And last but not least, on 15th June we treated 70 men at the ABH home in Chatsworth with mini head and neck massages as well as a live performance by one of our 2013 Chatsworth's Got Talent winners Kenti. They were also treated to muffins, snowballs and juice while they relaxed and enjoyed the entertainment.

Mothers Day

Moms play the most important role in our lives. They are selfless women who inspire, motivate and remind us to be a better person every single day so it was only fitting we acknowledged, rewarded and spoilt them.

Chatsworth Centre hosted a one week campaign consisting of three different elements to spoil our special moms.

For all our loyal shoppers, we hosted a Spend & Receive. All shoppers had to do was spend R200.00 or more at any store in the centre between 1 – 8 May, produce their till slips at the information desk located on phase 2 and collect a complimentary gift for their mom.

Chatsworth Centre also hosted an in mall spa activation. Shoppers could visit the Hub court between 10am and 2pm daily on the 7 – 8 May to enjoy a complimentary 10 minute head and neck massage or hand massage. In addition to that, our special mom who visited the centre on Mother's Day was treated to chocolates handed out by our promoters.

And last but not least, on the 4th May we treated 60 women at the Chatsworth Hospice in Silverglen to a pamper session. The ladies were treated with mini massages and mini manicures. They were also treated to muffins and juice during their breakfast.

Chatsworth Centre School holiday & Easter Carnival

Our school holidays and Easter carnival campaign commenced on Saturday, 19 March and concluded on Sunday, 10 April 2016. This campaign consisted of 2 elements, a Spend, Receive and Win competition and school holiday activities.

School holiday Activities commenced on 19 March and concluded on 28 March in the Hub court. Arts and crafts, movie screening and lots more fun and games were available to all kids.

The Treasure hunt was an exciting element that had been included into the Easter campaign and was open to all children. Three treasure hunts took place on Saturday, 26 March. The main winner walked away with a Drone and a light up coloured ball sponsored by Verimark. The other two winners walk away with a light up coloured ball also sponsored by Verimark as well as a box of Easter eggs each.

A roaming Easter bunny and promoters handed out delicious Easter eggs to shoppers over the Easter weekend. The bunny also spent time interacting with the kids and taking selfies which created excitement around the centre.

On Thursday, 24 March Chatsworth Centre hosted a show for the Pediatric ward at RK Khan's Hospital. The entertainment consisted of a magic show, kids interaction, comedy, action songs and dances and was thoroughly enjoyed by the little ones. Easter eggs and candy floss were handed out to the kids as well.

Our Spend & Win competition commenced on 19 March and concluded on 10 April. Shoppers who spent R150 or more at any store were eligible to receive a branded collectable animal fridge magnet. Shoppers that collected all three magnets to make up a set stood a chance to win a Game Drive to Tala Game Reserve for a family of four. The lucky winner was Gladys Boulton from Chatsworth.

Chatsworth Centre's Valentines Campaign commenced on Monday, 1st February and Concluded on 29th February 2016, and it was very well received by shoppers.

To enter shoppers simply had to spend R 300 or more between the 1st – 29th February 2016 at any store in the Centre, present their till slips and fill in an entry form at the information desk. Lucky shopper Ganamabal Govender, won a holiday for two valued at R10 000 to Cape Town.

A picture says a thousand words and there isn't anything more romantic than capturing memories with a loved one. All shoppers had to do is take a picture at our display area, the picture was then uploaded onto our Chatsworth Centre Facebook page. The picture with the most likes was Rebbeca Gucci who won a romantic dinner for two at an exclusive restaurant in Durban valued at R1000. Terms and Conditions applied.

The much anticipated festive season was met with much excitement at Chatsworth Centre. Santa was situated at the Shoprite forecourt during the holidays. Kids were able to take a photograph with Santa from the 1st to the 24th of December 2015.

Various activities took place over the extended trading hours. Kids' entertainment included roaming costume characters, movie themed days, Lego building, colouring in, painting competitions, kids cooking classes and a treasure hunt. Kids' activations were well received by one and all and added to the festive ambiance at the mall.

The mall also hosted a spend and win competition for shoppers who spent R300.00 or more during the period 16th to 24th of December. Entrants stood a chance of winning a ship cruise. A phenomenal event that caused an exciting stir on Saturday, 9th May 2015 at Chatsworth Centre's Mother's Day programme. Popular radio personality, MC and entertainer, Neville Pillay brought upon lots of laughs and entertainment to the live prize give-away.

A giant handbag had been placed at Chatsworth Centre's Shoprite forecourt and shoppers were then enticed to guess what items appeared in the giant handbag. To make it easier for the shoppers, one clue was advertised in the Rising Sun newspaper, each week for three weeks and all shoppers needed to do was fill in an entry form with all their answers.

Three lucky winners were chosen in the live draw on Saturday from 12pm.  Mrs Valencia Govender, Mrs Jane Mahabeer and Mrs P Sivalingum were the lucky recipients of a 20L Defy microwave, 220L Hisense Fridge and 32 inch Sansui flat screen TV respectively. These lucky women guessed all answers correctly and had the privilege to walk away with their Mother's Day gifts.

Chatsworth Centre also rewarded shoppers who spent R 300 or more from 1st – 10th May, with a complimentary gift and promoters were handing out chocolates to all mums in the mall on Sunday, 10th May 2015.

Publicity Bursary Awards 2015:
Chatsworth Centre hosted the annual Bursary Awards function on Friday, 20th February 2015. This CSI initiative caters for impecunious matriculants in the community, who want to study further at a tertiary institution of their choice. Five students were chosen according to their financial need and academic merit by an independent judging panel.

Chatsworth Centre is proud to have helped changed the lives of these five students and the proud recipients of bursaries were Michaela De Sousa, R30 000 of Savannah Park Secondary School, Sashleen Naidoo, R15 000 of Brindhaven Secondary School, Deshnee Govender, R13 000 of Glenover Secondary School, Jesse Deenadayalan, R12 000 of Newhaven Secondary School and Arnold Naidu, R10 000 of Kharwastan Secondary School.

In addition, Chatsworth Centre in collaboration with Regent Business School awarded one student the opportunity to receive a bursary towards a one-year full time higher certificate in Business Management valued at R 20 700, the winner was Magdalene Naidoo of Risecliff Secondary School.

The awardees were overwhelmed and beyond appreciative upon receiving their bursaries. Chatsworth Centre is proud to have brought joy and assistance in alleviating the financial strain of the students and their families.

This July school holidays Chatsworth Centre hosted a Speedster activation area whereby kids could have turns racing around a speed track, which was set up at the Hub foyer, whilst parents shop.
Kids of all ages got to race around the speed track in groups and see if they can outpace the other. The activation area was centered around this theme however there were activities for both boys and girls where girls also enjoyed a wide variety of activities suited to them.
The kid’s entertainment ran daily from 10am - 2pm between the 14th and 23rd of July 2017. There was an array of activities including colouring in, arts and crafts, puzzles and related activities to the theme on each day.
In addition, Chatsworth Centre had a huge surprise for all shoppers - a special Space robot was at the centre to meet and greet kids. Shoppers and their kids had a chance to meet this special Space robot from 12:30pm till 2pm between the 15th July and 22nd of July 2017. Kids were amazed by the space robot and certainly enjoyed the surprise.

Easter egg-stravaganza

Chatsworth Centre was a buzz this Easter. Kids were kept entertained and occupied during the school holidays and over the Easter weekend with various activities and crafts planned for each day. The activation area was situated at the Hub foyer and activities commenced from 10am till 2pm daily.

Entertainment at Chatsworth Centre commenced on the 10th April 2017 and ran through Easter weekend ending on the 17th April 2017. Kids were given the opportunity to meet cartoon characters who roamed the mall over the Easter weekend from the 14th April 2017 till the 17th April 2017 between 11am till 2pm. Chatsworth Centre brought through a special Easter bunny this year and it was none other than the Alice in Wonderland Easter bunny. Shoppers had a chance to meet the Easter bunny on the 15th April 2017. Chocolates were handed out to shoppers over Saturday and Sunday and kids received Easter eggs at the entertainment area to commemorate Easter and shoppers certainly enjoyed the surprise!
